Christoph Bertram ist Associate Research Professor am Center for Global Sustainability (CGS) der University of Maryland. 

Von 2019-April 2023 leitete er das Team zur Internationalen Klimapolitik innerhalb der Energiesystemgruppe am PIK.

Er arbeitet an der Darstellung von Klima- und Energiepolitiken in gekoppelten Wirtschafts- und Energiesystemmodellen zur Analyse von Klimaschutzstrategien. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind unter anderem

  • die Wechselwirkungen zwischen mittelfristigen Energie- und Klimapolitiken und langfristigen Klimazielen (u.a. "carbon lock-in"),
  • nationale Politikanalysen, inkl. nationally determined contributions (NDCs) und mittelfristige Neutralitätsziele (net-zero targets),
  •  breitere Nachhaltigkeitsauswirkungen des Energiesystems in Klimaschutzszenarien,
  • sowie die Frage, wie sich Ergebnisse aus Klimaschutzszenarien zur Analyse von Transitionsrisiken von Volkswirtschaften und Unternehmen verwenden lassen.

In den letzten Jahren am PIK arbeitete er in leitenden Rollen in den internationalen Projekten NGFS und ENGAGE und war beitragender Autor in den Kapiteln 3 and 15 des 6. Sachstandsbericht des Weltklimarates (IPCC AR6).
