Barbora Šedová (co-)leitet das FutureLab - Sicherheit, ethnische Konflikte und Migration am PIK. In ihrer Arbeit analysiert sie wann und wie sich klimatische Ereignisse auf menschliche Migration und Konfliktrisiken auswirken. Das übergreifende Ziel ihrer Forschung ist es, die Risiken für menschliche Sicherheit in einem sich verändernden Klima zu minimieren. Hierzu wendet sie Ansätze aus der Ökonometrie, der geografischen Informationssysteme sowie der systematischen Literaturauswertung an. Barbora (co-)leitet das PREVIEW Projekt und war die Projektleiterin der Weathering Risk Initiative am PIK. Sie ist außerdem Mitglied des Beirats der Bundesregierung Zivile Krisenprävention und Friedensförderung.

Barbora promovierte in Volkswirtschaft am Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) und an der Universität Potsdam. Für ihre Promotion gewann sie den Dissertationspreis der Universität Potsdam. Barbora hat Forschungsaufenthalte an der Columbia University und der Yale University absolviert. Sie hat einen Master-Abschluss in Wirtschaftswissenschaften von der Universität Tilburg und einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften von der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien. Sie war außerdem in verschiedenen Forschungs- und Beratungspositionen tätig, unter anderem bei PricewaterhouseCoopers in den Niederlanden, dem Umweltministerium der Slowakischen Republik, dem Deutschen Bundestag und der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
