Akshaya is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), working within the Integrated Assessment Modelling (IAM) group in Research Department 3 – Transformation Pathways. She joined the institute in January 2026 and works under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Strefler. Her research focuses on Sustainable Development Pathways (SDPs), with particular emphasis on Planetary Boundaries assessment and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using the Potsdam Integrated Assessment Model (PIAM) framework.
Akshaya has a background in Civil Engineering and Ocean Engineering. She completed her integrated M.S. and PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), where her doctoral research focused on marine pollution processes, particularly marine biogeochemistry, sustainable remediation of oil spills, and the biological carbon pump, combining experimental investigations with numerical modelling. During her PhD, she carried out collaborative research with the Institute for Organic Biogeochemistry in Geo-Systems (OBG), RWTH Aachen University and the Indo-German Centre for Sustainability (IGCS).
