This project employs a comprehensive methodological framework combining quantitative and qualitative approaches to assess climate impacts, risks, and policy interventions in collaboration with partner countries. Key aspects include:
1. Quantitative-Empirical Analysis
- Climate damage and risks are estimated under varying emissions reduction and adaptation scenarios, using the Integrated Assessment Model REMIND
- Geopolitical impacts, including those in conflict and migration, are analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
- The methods align with existing national data and approaches for seamless integration and ensure compatibility with initiatives like the Climate Risk Index, ECA/ETH Zürich, and AGRICA.
2. Non-Modelling Approaches
- Policy interventions and transitional risks are evaluated in specific geopolitical contexts.
- This includes qualitative analysis of policies in integrated assessment models to assess distributional effects, local ownership, and sustainable development outcomes.
The project examines both intended outcomes and potential unintended side effects of climate interventions, including those from international partners, to identify trade-offs and improve socio-economic understanding.
This integrated approach enhances analytical depth, strengthens policy relevance, and fosters insights into the diverse opportunities, risks, and trade-offs of climate action within varied socio-economic and geopolitical contexts.
