Eva Lüdke is a doctoral researcher in the working group Past and Future Earth (PATH) at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. In her research, she focuses on an episode of the deep past between 2.5 and 2 billion years ago, in which the Earth underwent massive changes: The first rise of free oxygen in the atmosphere, known as the Great Oxidation Event, permanently altered the composition of the atmosphere and the chemistry of the Earth's surface.

In this period, the Paleoproterozoic, the Earth also experienced its first major glaciations, possibly turning the globe into a "Snowball Earth". Eva aims to improve our understanding of these glaciations and their causes using the Earth System Model CLIMBER-X. Her research is carried out in collaboration with the GOE-DEEP drilling project, which recovers drill cores from that time. The cores provide proxy data to inform the model simulations, while the simulations in turn can help to interpret the glacial evidence of the GOE-DEEP cores.
