PIK researcher Felicitas Beier receives EHS doctoral award from the Berlin Scientific Society

Felicitas Beier was honored for her dissertation on the role of irrigation in the global land-use system (“The role of irrigation in the global land system: Assessing land-based climate change mitigation and the global intensification potential through irrigation and multiple cropping expansion”) at Humboldt University in Berlin, which was supervised by Hermann Lotze-Campen, head of the Climate Resilience Department at PIK and professor of Sustainable Land Use and Climate Change at Humboldt University. Her work combines hydrological and economic perspectives and examines how irrigation and multiple cropping can contribute to increasing agricultural production while simultaneously considering the availability of freshwater, ecological sustainability limits, and economic conditions.

Since 2023, the Berlin Scientific Society has awarded its doctoral prize once a year during its annual summer meeting in cooperation with the Erhard Höpfner Foundation.
