According to the jury, Ottmar Edenhofer has played a key role in the introduction and further development of CO₂ pricing instruments in Germany and Europe. Through his research, he has identified viable pathways for ambitious climate policy and has helped bring scientific insights into political decision-making processes.
In addition to Edenhofer, several other figures from the business community and civil society are being honored this year, including Claudine Nierth, spokesperson of the federal executive board of Mehr Demokratie e.V.
The award ceremony will take place on 9 and 10 September 2026 as part of the BAUM Conference in Rust.
Since 1993, the BAUM Environmental and Sustainability Award has been presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to sustainable development in business, science, and society. The award is deliberately conferred on individuals rather than organisations.
