Paul Michelsen

Doctoral Researcher
Michelsen

Paul is a doctoral researcher with a background in development economics. His research focuses on how smallholder farmers adapt to climate change and on the economic and environmental conditions that shape their livelihoods. In his first project, he studies what motivates smallholder farmers to participate in agricultural training aimed at strengthening their adaptive capacity. Using experimental methods and survey data, the goal is to identify causal mechanisms. Further broader research interests include the relationship between smallholder agriculture and deforestation, as well as the effects of large-scale land acquisitions on rural communities.
