Research for evidence-based climate policy through agricultural and food systems transformation, financing preservation forest sink and a just transition of the economy
This project aims to provide scientific evidence to support the transition to climate-resilient economies. A
timely phase out of fossil fuels is essential to achieve international climate targets. In addition to energy
systems transformation, agricultural and food systems need to be transformed and forest system need to
sustained, as unsustainable land use and deforestation accounts for considerable greenhouse gas emissions
as well. The project contributes to achieving sustainable development globally, by providing evidence on
effective policy instruments, incentive structures and transformative practices that advance climate
adaptation and mitigation, at the same time accounting for biodiversity preservation, poverty reduction, food
security, and gender equality. It will include research on sustaining carbon sinks and financing forest
preservation, while being embedded within broader efforts to address distributional impacts of climate
policies and assess justice dimensions of socio-ecological transformations in low- and middle-income
countries.
