The WG Data-based analysis of climate decisions investigates how we – individually and as a society – respond to a changing climatic environment and extreme weather events.

We employ econometric and other mathematical data-analysis and modeling techniques with the aim of gaining insights into climate-related decision-making in the past and in the future. Specifically, we study how different economic, private and public actors responded to past weather extremes and explore a range of sustainable adaptation strategies for the future. To this end, we combine historical and projected climate data with socio-economic observations, indicators and development pathways. Previously, we have e.g. studied how temperature shocks affect economic productivity and electricity consumption or how the impacts of extreme weather events can cause ripple effects in the global trade and food supply networks (see publications).
