His scientific work focuses on the climate history of the Earth – including early Earth climates, past glaciations, greenhouse climates and climatic changes during mass extinction events – as well as human-made climate change.
Feulner has been actively engaged in teaching at the University of Potsdam for over a decade. He received the Faculty Award for Excellent Teaching in 2015. He completed his habilitation - a post-doctoral qualification based on excellence in teaching and research - and was appointed Privatdozent (equivalent to an associate professor) in 2022. His international recognition includes an Ida Pfeiffer Professorship at the University of Vienna (2018) and a Sir Kirby Laing Visiting Fellowship at the School of Ocean Sciences, Bangor University (UK) in 2024.
