Dr. Qaisar Saddique and Paula Romanovska have given presentations at the EGU Conference 2023

The EGU23 General Assembly took place from 23rd to 28th of April in Vienna (Austria) and welcomed 18,831 attendees from more than 100 countries. The EGU brings together geoscientists from all over the world to discuss their research and ideas.

Paula Romanovska presented her work on forecasting wheat yields in Kazakhstan using a statistical crop model. The statistical model can be easily applied in Kazakhstan and beyond as it is run with publicly available weather and yield data and requires low computational power.

Dr. Qaisar Saddique introduced the concept of spatial crop modeling that aims to address agricultural water use in the context of climate change and limited water resources. The proposed modeling approach holds the potential to fulfill multiple objectives, encompassing regional water planning, optimizing irrigation practices during drought conditions, and making predictions by analysing historical weather trends. Specifically, the spatial crop modeling approach exhibits great promise for application and exploration in the Central Asia region.
