Philipp Verpoort has been a postdoctoral researcher in Research Department 3 (Transition Pathways) since May 2021, where he is a member of Prof Gunnar Luderer's group and part of Dr Falko Ueckerdt's team. He works in energy systems modelling and is conducting research on the role of virtual energy trade (i.e. trade of hydrogen, e-fuels, energy-intensive goods) for the sustainable energy transition.

He is a theoretical physicist by training and previously conducted research in the context of solid-state physics and artificial intelligence in the Theory of Condensed Matter Group at the University of Cambridge, where he completed his PhD.
