Ivan Ramirez is a Senior Researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), where he is part of the energy transition lab (ETL) in the research department 3 "Transformations Pathways".
His research focuses on coupling the PyPSa high-resolution power system model to the integrated assessment model REMIND. This will allow for better representation of electricity costs at high variable renewable energy penetration and demand-side flexibility in the REMIND transition pathways. These efforts are part of the Energy Foundation China PANDA project, which models optimal net-zero pathways for China's power sector.
Prior to joining PIK, Dr. Ramirez worked in R&D in the thin-film photovoltaics industry and headed the data analysis and processing team at a start-up developing satellites for greenhouse gas monitoring. He studied Theoretical Physics at Imperial College London and obtained his PhD on Organic and Perovskite solar cells from the University of Oxford.
