Hey there! In my work I investigate the trajectories and boundaries of human climate adaptation in the context of Earth system science. As a PhD student, I am mainly affiliated with the Earth Resilience Science Unit at PIK and the University of Potsdam (Dr. Donges and Prof. Rockström). My research is supported by the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).
Current work:
- B. Ott, J.F. Donges, and J. Rockström, Climate Adaptation in the Anthropocene: Towards an Earth System-Based Perspective (2025, in review)
- B. Ott, J.F. Donges, and J. Rockström, Protecting the Boundaries: Why Climate Adaptation Must Not Challenge Earth's Resilience (2025, in prep.)
- B. Ott, Climate Jiu-Jitsu: How We Can Turn the Destructive Forces of Climate Change into Accelerated Planetary Stewardship (work in progress)
Teaching:
- WS 2024/25 (University of Potsdam): "Global Sustainability in the Anthropocene" (with Prof. Rockström, Dr. Donges, Dr. Wunderling, and Niklas Kitzmann)
Conference presentations:
- April 2025 (EGU/Vienna): "The human climate: towards an Earth-system based understanding of human climate adaptation"
