Dr. Chen Chris Gong

Postdoctoral Researcher
Gong

Chen ("Chris") Gong is a postdoctoral researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).

Dr. Gong is currently part of the international climate policy team, which focuses on political economy consideration in integrated assessment model (IAM) pathways. In the past she has worked on two topics: 1) national transition pathway for China, and 2) developing soft-coupling methodologies for IAM modeling. Specifically, she explored the relation between high-emission power mix and electrification rate in China's energy system of the future, and worked on better representing electrification and variable renewable integration by coupling integrated assessment model REMIND to a detailed energy model DIETER (DIW)

Her research interests are international and national climate policies, international collaborations on achieving ambitious climate pathways, international political economy, energy system modelling, sector coupling, renewable energy storage, hydrogen and industrial energy transition. She is part of the 1.5 National Pathways, ELEVATE, ARIADNE and INTEGRATE projects.
