CORC 2 builds on the findings and structure of the existing CORC project. The current project focuses on identifying promising new technologies that can store captured carbon in useful products (CCU) and assessing their potential contribution to ambitious climate mitigation goals as well as potential trade-offs and competition with other technologies using the REMIND model. The new project aims to extend and deepen this work. It will further explore the most promising current CCU technologies, examining their implications for emissions, carbon removal, and the broader energy system. In addition, it will evaluate the sustainability and planetary health implications of pathways with a stronger focus on CCU technologies.
