This research project examines Germany’s food system in light of urgent social, environmental, and economic challenges, focusing on its hidden societal costs, their unequal distribution, and the influence of public spending. It investigates the complex interconnections between food production, distribution, and consumption, and their impacts on people, society, and the planet, while identifying structural incentives that sustain harmful practices. Through a combination of rigorous analysis, political and strategic perspectives, and active stakeholder engagement, the project seeks to develop evidence-based, practical measures that foster informed debate, build consensus, and inspire meaningful change toward a fair, sustainable, and resilient food future that meets the needs of current and future generations.
