Science and the state capital Potsdam become climate partners

11.11.2018 - Potsdam's mayor Jann Jakobs and researchers from severeal institutes in the state capital have aggred upon a "climate-partnership". Among the signatories is Ottmar Edenhofer, acting director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. The goal of the partnership: Until 2050 the city plans to bring its CO2 emissions to almost zero - in this way the municipality would make its contribution to the climate stabilization targets of the Paris Climate Agreement.

As a "Masterplankommune 100% Klimaschutz 2050", founded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Potsdam has developed 34 core strategies and 157 measures and expanded its climate council for the dialogue between citizens, administration, business and science, which has been in existence for several years. In addition to the state capital Potsdam, the new climate-partnership now includes ProPotsdam GmbH, Stadtwerke Potsdam GmbH, proWissen Potsdam e. V., Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomics e.V., the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam German Research Centre for Geosciences, the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering GmbH, the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences, the University of Potsdam, the Federal Foundation for Building Culture, and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
