PIK receives TOTAL E-QUALITY award for the sixth time

06.11.2025 - The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) has once again been awarded the TOTAL E-QUALITY award for the years 2025 to 2027. The jury recognised the institute's ongoing development of an equal opportunities strategy. This year, a total of 60 organisations from science, business and administration received the award.

PIK received the TOTAL E-QUALITY award for the first time in 2010 and has continuously expanded its equality strategy ever since. Further improvements are planned for the coming years, in particular through the merger with the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC). The aim is to establish a common culture of equality. From 2025 to 2027, PIK will focus more on further training for management in the areas of equality and anti-discrimination. Recruitment processes will also be further developed in order to anchor equal opportunities in the long term. The bilingual equality concept contains specific target quotas for 2027 and lists measures that will be continued or newly introduced. The concept will be updated every three years.

The jury particularly emphasises that the announced Women's Executive Board has been successfully established. The network of women in management positions strengthens internal networking and at the same time has a positive effect on new female applicants. Diversity measures on topics such as mental health, social interaction and anti-discrimination are also viewed positively. In addition, PIK integrates diversity aspects such as gender data gaps and climate justice into its research, which further strengthens its holistic and sustainably anchored equality strategy.
PIK's Equal Opportunities Officer Christine von Bloh emphasises: ‘I am delighted that we have once again received this award. It confirms that PIK takes the issues of equality and diversity seriously, and it also validates my work as Equal Opportunities Officer.’

The TOTAL E-QUALITY award has been presented every three years since 1996 by the association TOTAL E-QUALITY Deutschland e. V. The project is supported by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. In addition to work-life balance, the concept takes into account aspects such as recruitment and personnel development, cooperative behaviour in the workplace and the anchoring of equality goals in the institute's principles.
