PIK strengthens its position among the world's leading climate think tanks

02/01/2021 - The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) was again among the most influential think tanks in the field of environmental policy in 2020 as shown in this year's "Global Go Top Think Tank Index Report" published by the University of Pennsylvania. The ranking takes into account more than 6,500 institutions worldwide.

For the 12th time in a row, PIK is among the world's leading think tanks in its field.

For the twelfth time in a row, PIK is among the world's leading think tanks in its field - even though it is actually a research institute with a focus on scientific publications. As the world's number 3 in the category "Top Environment Policy Think Tank", PIK positioned itself directly behind the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and the Ecologic Institute - even ahead of highly renowned institutions such as the Brookings Institution in Washington D.C. or Chatham House in London.

In addition, PIK also improved or maintained its position in the rankings "Top Think Tanks with the Most Significant Impact on Public Policy", the "Top Think Tanks Worldwide," the "Top Energy and Resource Policy Think Tanks," and the "Best Government Affiliated Think Tanks." In the ranking "Top Think Tanks in Western Europe" PIK even climbed 37 positions compared to the previous year, from 92nd to 55th place.

The annual ranking has been published since 2008 and is based on international surveys of more than 7,500 scientists, public and private institutions, policymakers and journalists from around the world.
