The Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany), which is responsible for networking science and business and is a trustee for 680 foundations, most of which promote science, is honouring Ottmar Edenhofer for his scientific achievements in the field of the economic effects of climate change and climate policy: "With Ottmar Edenhofer, an outstanding economist is being honoured who researches strategies for coping with climate change, one of the most fundamental challenges of our time. Edenhofer deals, for example, with the prerequisites and costs of restructuring the energy system and is considered a pioneer and expert in the field of CO2 pricing. Other subjects of his research are questions of economic growth as well as welfare and inequality theory."

As the Stifterverband announced today, the Arthur Burckhardt Foundation will present the prize at a festive event in Munich on 16 November; author and publicist Carolin Emcke will give the keynote speech. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros. The biophysicist Wolfgang M. Heckl will also be honoured on this day for his scientific achievements in the field of nanotechnology, whose award from last year will be made up for.
