At IT:U, Ueckerdt’s group will advance research and policy advice on transforming energy systems toward climate neutrality. The group will explore technological and policy pathways for flexible, digital, and renewable-based energy systems, with particular emphasis on electrification, hydrogen, and e-fuels across sectors such as transport, buildings, and industry. The first three PhD positions in Ueckerdt’s group are currently open for applications.

Through his new role, Ueckerdt will strengthen cooperation between PIK and IT:U, enabling joint research on energy and materials and leveraging the complementary expertise of both institutions. At IT:U, the focus on digital transformation and advanced AI-based methods has the potential to enable innovative, data-driven energy system research.

Falko Ueckerdt has been a key part of PIK for many years, most recently as Deputy Head of the Energy Transition Lab and Team Lead for Hydrogen and Industry Transformation. He was contributing author to the IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources (2011) and the Sixth Assessment Report (2022).
