Sabine Undorf's research focuses on developing new methods and applications in attribution science, using remote sensing data to analyse extreme weather events, and integrating natural and social science approaches to support responsible climate research. She will also contribute local observational data to support interdisciplinary and regional research collaborations.
As part of the "Adaptation in Agricultural Systems" working group, her work at PIK focuses specifically on attributing climate impacts in agriculture and subsequent impact sectors such as human health. She further studies how knowledge about climate change can influence individual and societal decision-making, and how societal, political, and ethical values shape the climate-scientific process.
Sabine Undorf leads the ClimaKid project as well as PIK's contribution to the Afriverse project. ClimaKid investigates how climate change is already affecting children's health, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Afriverse develops attribution datasets, digital tools and scientific capacity to improve the understanding of climate-related health impacts in Africa. Undorf will continue to lead the Climakid project alongside her professorship.
Undorf studied physics at the University of Bonn and earned her PhD in Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.
