The event takes a look back at six years of successful climate research at TU Berlin sponsored by the Michael Otto Foundation and offers an outlook on possible solutions for the climate crisis. The dialogue will be moderated by Max Schön, chair of the foundation "2° - German CEOs for Climate Protection".
At the department "Economics of Climate Change", a set of studies have been conducted that were incorporated in the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Through regular "Climate Lectures", faculty members have had the opportunity to discuss related issues with the public and renowned experts like nobel laureate Elinor Ostrom, climate economist Lord Nicholas Stern and Achim Steiner, head of the United Nations Environment Programme.
"There is no silver bullet to slow down man-made global warming. Science can play an important role as a cartographer of viable pathways, to help decision makers navigate through difficult terrain," Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer says, who holds the professorship that is co-sponsored by the Michael Otto Foundation.
"Politics, businesses, science and society have to respond to climate change collectively," founder Dr. Michael Otto says. "In collaboration with Professor Edenhofer and through the endowed professorship at Technische Universität Berlin, we were able to help shape future climate policy and foster dialogue."

"The university is a suitable place for the professorship of "Economics of Climate Change", which will be continued. Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer was able to give vital stimuli to climate research and climate politics. Furthermore, he fostered public discourse - one example is the Climate Lecture, which has been held on a regular basis in the TU-Audimax since 2008 when he took office.
The endowed professorship "Economics of Climate Change" at Technische Universität Berlin was initiated in 2008 as the first of its kind by the Michael Otto Foundation for Environmental Protection. The interdisciplinary professorship comprises topics like international trade, land use with a focus on urbanization and settlements, research on transport, and macro-economic sustainability analysis. Following the sponsorship by the Michael Otto Foundation for Environmental Protection TU Berlin will provide the funds to continue the professorship.
