“Climate change can amplify risks”, says Edenhofer, Vice-Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Chair of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Director of the Mercator Research Center on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC). “Decision makers in politics and economics have to develop strategies for risk management on the basis of uncertainty. Science can play an important role as a cartographer of viable pathways”.
In addition to Edenhofer, the participants of the discussion panel are Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kemal Dervis, former director of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Vice-President of the Brookings Institution, Anne-Marie Slaughter, President of the New America Foundation, as well as Narendra Taneja, President of the World Energy Policy Summit.
