“Shaping European environmental policy”: Ottmar Edenhofer on ENDS Europe Impact List

In his capacity as PIK Director, Ottmar Edenhofer is also chair of the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change (ESABCC). As ESABCC chair, Edenhofer provides the EU with scientific knowledge, expertise and advice relating to climate change. The Advisory Board evaluates policies and identifies actions and opportunities to successfully achieve the EU's climate targets.

To feature on the list, individuals had to either have shaped or influenced EU environmental policy, having delivered positive results for the environment, or working towards positive change through their commitment. ENDS Europe lauded Edenhofer as one of the most cited scientists in the world in “interdisciplinary science” and winner of numerous recognitions for his work on renewable energy potential and carbon pricing. Besides Ottmar Edenhofer, the ENDS list features a great variety of people from different professional categories, from former Executive Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans to the head of the Climate Change Centre at European Central Bank Irene Heemskerk and Dirk Messner, president of the German Environment Agency.
