Launched in 2024, the Commission was established to address a critical, understudied global challenge: providing robust scientific evidence on the complex nexus between climate change, migration, and health. The initiative aims to raise awareness and guide the development of equitable health policies and practical responses across the WHO European Region and beyond.
Commissioners are tasked with reviewing current scientific evidence, identifying urgent research gaps, and developing actionable recommendations for international policy. As a Commissioner for the 2025–2026 mandate, Dr. Didovets joins a select, multidisciplinary academic collegium of roughly 20 senior experts and think-tank leaders. In this role,he will help steer the Commission's agenda, contribute to original research and data analysis, and co-author key chapters of the Commission’s upcoming comprehensive report.
Dr. Didovets' appointment marks a significant contribution to shaping a more resilient, rights-based, and equitable public health framework under a rapidly warming global climate. Iulii Didovets: "Droughts, floods and extreme heat are among the most direct pathways through which climate change drives people from their homes and threatens their health. I’m glad to bring PIK’s expertise in climate impact modelling to the Europe Commission, so that the physical side of the climate–migration–health nexus is understood as rigorously as the social side."
