Statistical methods can be used to identify large emissions decreases at a national and
sectoral level (Stechemesser et al. 2024). In a similar fashion, they might be used to identify
large emissions increases. These - when linked with appropriate policy data - could allow the
generation of hypotheses on key drivers of emissions. This project aims to use such an
analysis to explore the effects of policy reversals, weakening legislation, interest group
obstruction, and other non-climate policy effects on emissions.
