The Global Conference on Environmental Taxation (GCET) has been held annually since 2000 and is the leading global forum for interdisciplinary exchanges on the principles and practices of environmental taxation and other market-based instruments to address climate change, protect the environment and promote a just energy transition.
The annual conferences provide an international and interdisciplinary environment to explore issues relating to the design and implementation of environmental taxes and opportunities to network to explore a range of theoretical and practical issues. The conferences are not intended to advance any specific environmental agenda, but rather to advance knowledge and foster international collaboration. We welcome individuals from the global North and South to exchange ideas and share their expertise on environmental issues facing their respective countries, including:
Early career scholars and researchers from universities and higher education institutions in the fields of law, economics, taxation, accounting, public administration, environmental studies, political economy and more;
Government officials at all levels of administration, including provincial, state and territorial ministries and departments of finance, taxation, transport, urban design, energy, water, environment and natural resources;
Representatives of international and non-governmental organizations (such as the World Bank, OECD and UN), tax and accounting professionals, private sector executives and other experts.
