Marie Brunel has studied Water Engineering at the University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis in France. After working within the Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau in Karlsruhe, she has joined the RD2's Land use and Resilience group and the International Research Training Group (IRTG 1740) as doctoral researcher. She is focusing on fire practices on pasture in Brazil and implementing burning grassland in LPJmL.

Since October 2021, she is working within GEMMES MAROC at the Mediterranean Institute for Biodiversity and Ecology (IMBE) in collaboration with the French Agency for Development. The main objective is the assessment of Moroccan agriculture and irrigation system facing climate change using LPJmL med.
