Barbora Šedová (co-)leads the FutureLab - Security, Ethnic Conflicts and Migration at PIK. In her work, she analyses when and how climate impacts migration and conflicts. Her research aims to reduce risks to human security in a changing climate. She applies approaches from econometrics,  geospatial analysis and systematic literature review. Barbora (co-) leads the PREVIEW project and was the project lead of the Weathering Risk initiative at PIK. She is also a member of the Advisory Board to the Federal German Government on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding.

Barbora earned her PhD in Economics at Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) and the University of Potsdam. For her doctoral thesis, she was awarded the prize for outstanding dissertation of the University of Potsdam. She has conducted research stays at Columbia University and Yale University. Barbora holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Tilburg University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics and Social Sciences from the Vienna University of Economics and Business.  She has also held various research and advisory positions, namely at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Netherlands, the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, German Bundestag and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
