Luzie Helfmann

Doctoral Researcher

Since February 2019, I have been a PhD student in the MATH+ project "Understanding tipping and other dynamical transitions in systems containing human agents" supervised jointly by Jobst Heitzig and Jürgen Kurths from PIK as well as Péter Koltai from FU Berlin and Christof Schütte (Zuse-Institute Berlin). At PIK I am part of the FutureLab on Game Theory & Networks of Interacting Agents and copan (coevolutionary pathways).

In my research, I am building on Transition Path Theory to develop methods for studying tipping processes and other critical transitions in stochastic agent-based models. The difficulty in analyzing agent-based systems comes from the models being typically high-dimensional and out-of-equilibrium. More details about my PhD project can be found on the MATH+ project page, my publications are listed on google scholar.

Together with another PhD student, Sarah Hiller, I am organizing the colloquium CHANGES+ for young researchers in and around Berlin with an interest in agent-based modeling of societal change processes.
