Be-cause health, run by Belgian and international actors engaged in Global Health, enables learning exchanges of latest research results and gives policy advice on international health-related matters. The focus of this year's annual conference was on health impacts of the climate emergency in low- and middle-income countries and how to develop strategies and measures to strengthen resilience in the health sector.
In her keynote speech, Prof. Gabrysch introduced a Planetary Health perspective on the climate crisis. Under the premise that human health fundamentally depends on functioning ecosystems and a stable climate, she explained the current state of planet Earth and what continued business-as-usual would mean for humankind. After making the diagnosis of a planetary emergency, she also introduced treatment options on how we can heal ourselves and our planet’s ecosystems by becoming active together, changing destructive structures and implementing win-win solutions for people and planet.
