Dr. Michael Pahle ist Leiter der Arbeitsgruppe "Klima- und Energiepolitik" am Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung (PIK). Er hat an der TU Berlin in Wirtschaftswissenschaften promoviert. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen Emissionshandelssysteme, öffentliche Unterstützung für CO2-Bepreisung und regulatorische Strategien zur Erreichung von Klimaneutralität. Er leitet die Forschungsaktivitäten zu "Europäischer Klima- und Energiepolitik" im BMBF-Projekt Ariadne, dem größten sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschungsprojekt zur Energiewende in Deutschland.  Auf der Grundlage seiner Forschung berät Michael die deutsche Regierung und das Parlament, die EU-Kommission und das EU-Parlament bei der Entwicklung, Reform und Ausweitung des Emissionshandels. Er ist Mitglied der Consultative Working Group für das Risk Comittee der European Securities and Markets Authority, und der Technical Working Group der Global Carbon Pricing Challenge.

Michael arbeitet er führenden Think Tanks in der EU zusammen, unter anderem mit dem Europäischen Hochschulinstitut in Florenz und Bruegel in Brüssel. Darüber hinaus ist er Mitglied der Global Climate Policy Partnership, eines in den USA ansässigen globalen Netzwerks von Forschungseinrichtungen, das große Volkswirtschaften und Unternehmen dabei unterstützt, ehrgeizige Klimaziele zu erreichen. Über Michaels Arbeit und seine Einschätzungen zur Klimapolitik wurde in führenden nationalen und internationalen Medien berichtet, darunter FAZ, Spiegel, Süddeutsche, Zeit,  Handelsblatt, El País, Politiken,  Euractiv, Financial Times, Bloomberg, New York Times und The Wall Street Journal.
