“Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity” (Stockholm+50) will take place five decades after the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. It is a major international environmental meeting held on June 2 and 3 2022, the week of World Environment Day.

There are five interconnected pathways in the conference: reimagining the future; through regeneration of ecosystems, of community and social resilience; to address a green and inclusive Covid recovery; to rebalance resource use and development. In the run up to the conference, several researchers within the Future Earth network engaged in the Stockholm+50 Leadership Dialogues consultation process.

As part of a 90-minute program on 31 May, Earth Commission Co-chairs Prof. Johan Rockström and Prof. Joyeeta Gupta will discuss how Stockholm+50 is a critical moment to support the need for an early warning system for Earth’s tipping points and commit to identifying safe and just boundaries for people and planet. The  talk will be framed with the overarching question: “How do we become planetary stewards?” and is convened by the Global Commons Alliance. Twitter will broadcast the event globally, to an expected audience of over 10 million people.

Registration for the event can be done online or on site at the SPACE arena in Stockholm. As the number of seats at the venue is limited, the organizers ask for understanding that the seats for the physical participants will be allocated on a "first come, first served" basis. Entry is free, but there are priority passes to be able to support the event.
