From Climate Research to Transfer in the Metropolitan Region Berlin Brandenburg

The new Einstein Center Climate Change (ECCC, in formation) is a public policy oriented research center designed to harness and further develop the unique potential of the Berlin Brandenburg region, its landscape of universities and various non-university institutes and stakeholders. Public policy is in the core of the movement required to set the course for climate mitigation and adaptation. Based on this, the new center will focus on climate solutions that work now, also reflecting the technological, societal and cultural transformation processes that these solutions will catalyze. The ECCC will pursue its goals by: i) advancing world class research; ii) identifying and fostering climate change solutions that work now; iii) educating the next generation of decision makers; and iv) reflecting, supporting and co-developing the associated social and cultural transformations. It will focus on subnational action at the scale of human settlements, ranging from metropolitan to rural areas, and taking Berlin and Brandenburg as primordial cases.

____

The Einstein Center Climate Change and Public Policy of Human Settlements (ECCC, in formation) originates from the Climate Change Center Berlin Brandenburg joint initiative, founded in 2020, involving Technische Universität Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Charité Berlin, Berlin University of the Arts, University of Potsdam, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and more than 30 research partners.
