At the European Summit of the bioeconomy 2022, top research and business meet to jointly tap the entrepreneurial potential of the bioeconomy with a view to the Paris climate goals.

On May 18, 5:00 p.m., PIK Director Emeritus John Schellnhuber will deliver a keynote address on "Less will not be enough. The Climate Crisis as a Challenge and Driver of the Bioeconomy."

The binding target agreed in Paris to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees to 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels is a long way off. In order to best contain the consequences of the climate crisis, immediate action is needed, especially in the economy. For the companies and technologies of the bioeconomy, this is both a challenge and an opportunity.

The bioeconomy offers three central approaches to pave the way for the necessary transformation to a sustainably successful and vital economy: Resources - Processes - Products. The European exchange on market-ready, energy-efficient processes and products is the focus of the conference.

At the Leopoldina, the national academy of sciences, entrepreneurs, investors and founders will discuss with scientists from many countries and show how the future field of bioeconomy effectively enables the upcoming transformation processes, a structural change with job prospects, and thereby significantly supports the commitment to preserve good livelihoods on our planet.
