Meine Forschung beschäftigt sich mit den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels auf Wälder und andere ökologische Systeme sowie sektorübergreifenden Klimafolgen, mit Anpassungsmaßnahmen um diesen Auswirkungen zu begegnen sowie den Wechselwirkungen zwischen der Resilienz ökologischer Systeme, nachhaltiger Entwicklung und der Bewirtschaftung natürlicher Ressourcen. Ich habe langjährige Erfahrung im Design und in der Analyse von Modellvergleichsstudien, die es ermöglichen Klimafolgen in die Zukunft zu projizieren, und arbeite darauf hin die Unsicherheiten dieser Projektionen besser abzuschätzen.

Nach dem Abschluss eines Doppel-M.Sc.-Programmes an der Universität Wageningen, NL, und der Universität Joensuu, FI, im Jahr 2009 schloss ich meine Promotion mit Schwerpunkt auf der Modellierung von Klimafolgen auf Waldökosysteme am Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung und an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin im Jahr 2013 ab. Seitdem war ich koordinierender Hauptautor des Turn Down the Heat-Berichts für die Weltbank und Vorsitzender des COST Action PROFOUND. Derzeit leite ich die Gruppe für Wald- und Ökosystemresilienz am PIK und arbeite im Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project (ISIMIP), in dem ich Aktivitäten im Bereich Wald, Biome, Biodiversität und Feuer koordiniere. Weiterhin, leite ich auch die COST Action PROCLIAS (CA19139). Darüber hinaus bin ich als Chefredakteur der Zeitschrift "Regional Environmental Change“ für alle Sonderausgaben verantwortlich und ebenso für die Betreuung der Gastherausgeber. Zudem habe ich in den letzten Jahren einen Kurs zum Thema "Anpassungen an den Globalen Wandel" an der Hochschule für nachhaltige Entwicklung Eberswalde und der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin gehalten. Ich publiziere meine Forschungsergebnisse sowohl in wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften, als auch in anderen Medien für ein nicht-wissenschaftliches Publikum.
