Philip Horster joined PIK's Energy Transition Lab (part of Research Department 3: Transformation Pathways) in late 2025 as a scientist. His research focuses on modelling trade strategies within global transformation pathways to climate neutrality for industry, specifically focusing on energy-intensive basic materials. From March 2026, he will continue his research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Falko Ueckerdt at the Interdisciplinary Transformation University in the Research Group Energy Transition and Climate Futures in Linz, Austria under the PhD program Computational X. He remains affiliated as guest doctoral researcher at PIK.

Philip has an interdisciplinary background. He holds Master's degrees in International Energy Transitions (Sciences Po Paris) and International Relations (Peking University), as well as Bachelor's degrees in Economics and Social Sciences (University of Cologne), and European Politics (King's College London). Prior to PIK, he worked on energy-related issues at Agora Energiewende, Agora Energy Transition China, the Energy Economics Institute (EWI) Cologne, RTE France, China Energy News, and the Energy Studies Institute (ESI) at the National University of Singapore.
