On this topic, the Directors of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Ottmar Edenhofer and Johan Rockström:

“The Nobel Prize to climate scientist Klaus Hasselmann is a fantastic recognition of how fundamentally Earth System Modelling has been advancing our understanding of the tremendous risks of climate change. This is not just of highest scientific relevance, it is also the basis for working towards a safe climate future for all people on our planet. Klaus Hasselmann really is one of the heroes of our scientific field, he is one of the founders of modern climate science – also one of the founders of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, since he was part of the small group of people who pushed for the establishment of our institute 30 years ago. We owe him more than words can say.”
