During his PhD at PIK, completed in 2010, Alex investigated the stability of the Greenland ice sheet together with PIK researchers Andrey Ganopolski and Reinhard Calov. He is now a post-doctoral researcher at Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, where he has already done research in the fields of extreme events and AMOC development, also in collaboration with scientists from PIK. His visit to PIK in February 2018 is will deepen this collaboration.
During his visit Alex gave a talk on The enigmatic past evolution of the Greenland ice sheet in which he summarised approaches to modelling the contribution of the Greenland ice sheet to higher sea levels during the Eemian interglacial period.
The PIK Alumni Return Awards have been set up with funding from the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung. The aim of the awards is to renew and strengthen contacts and collaborations with former PIK researchers through financing return visits to Potsdam.
