"I am really excited to see and learn how PIK approaches interdisciplinary research in the agriculture and food sector. The institute's integrated assessment and land use models are some of the field's gold standards. They offer an important complement to the global economic modelling we're doing at the Global Trade Analysis Project", says Prof Hertel.

Prof Lotze-Campen, who had put Hertel on the grant's shortlist, says: "Tom Hertel is a key voice in global economic analysis, and with his GTAP team at Purdue University he has created a powerful global network for assessing economic policies worldwide. So we're not only thrilled to have him here at PIK, but also looking forward to strengthening our cooperation through the new NSF-funded GLASSNET initiative that Hertel is leading on Global to Local Analysis of Systems Sustainability."
