Discussion with the German Red Cross: The humanitarian imperative in times of climate change

Regions exposed to tropical cyclone risks and hydrological extremes, such as the Bay of Bengal or the coast of Mozambique, may in the future be even more severely affected by the erosion of traditional livelihoods and food insecurity. In the panel discussion Regine Schäfer and Alexandra Rüth, both from the German Red Cross, gave insights into how forecast based financing can help to deliver aid more quickly in response to extreme events. Through this mechanism action can be taken pro-actively and therefore human suffering may be reduced. Also climate change-related displacements may be avoided or limited in their duration.
