09/14/2017 - Scientists from Research Areas 1, 2 and 3 discussed their ongoing work on the objective of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

The following presentations were held.

  • Elmar Kriegler (RD3): Overview of IPCC Special Report 1.5C and related IAM scenarios
  • Gunnar Luderer (RD3): 1.5C scenarios from the ADVANCE project: What determines the lower limit of residual fossil emissions?
  • Jessica Strefler (RD3): Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in 1.5C scenarios (incl. biomass)
  • Katja Frieler (RD2):Synthesis of multiple extreme impacts at 1.5C warming
  • Tobias Geiger (RD2)& Anselm Schultes (RD3): Social costs of tropical cyclones under various levels of global warming
  • Ricarda Winkelmann (RD1): Ice dynamics and critical thresholds
  • Hermann Lotze-Campen (RD2):  Modelling of adaptation options

The seminar closed with a general discussion about integration and potential synthesis of impacts and mitigation costs and joint contributions to the PIAM development.
