Green Central Asia workshops co-organised by RD2 scientists

24/10/2022 - 11/11/2022 - In a series of workshops and trainings, scientists from the Green Vision Central Asian project at PIK invite journalists, civil servants and other key stakeholders to discuss the information and data-flow on climate impacts in the region.

The workshop and trainings are conducted within the Green Central Asia initiative; a joint project of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the German-Kazakh University (DKU), the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) and the German Development Agency (GIZ).

With these trainings and workshops, the project partners aim to develop a political dialogue and consequently create better access to information and data in order to enable countries to assess the impact of climate change more accurately and to develop cooperative preventive measures.

From May- July 2022, the PIK-team has organised in total seven capacity-building events in Germany, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan addressing students, scientists, hydrometeorological workers, but also representatives of ministries and NGO's and currently a second round of events is taking place in the region:

  • 24-28 October 2022 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, a workshop took place on “Climate Journalism: Communicating Causes, Pathways and Solutions out of the Climate Crisis”. The main goal of the workshop was to provide state-of-the-art scientifically based information and familiarize  journalists with reputable data sources regarding climate data and multi-sectoral impacts, globally as well as regionally.
  • 6-9 November 2022 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, PIK together with DKU and the other partners organised another workshop, this time on "Fostering social cohesion and peace through climate adaptation with a focus on Water Governance in Central Asia"
  • And on 10-11 November 2022 Green Central Asia organised a training with a very similar content, this time specifically directed at early career civil servants: “Fostering social cohesion and peace through climate adaptation with a focus on Water Governance in Central Asia”
