Connect-Empower-Change: Women in Green Hydrogen promote diversity in the hydrogen sector

The international network was founded in October 2020, as a reaction to the strikingly uneven gender balance in the hydrogen sector. Julie Epp: "My motivation to start a network for women in hydrogen was that I knew a lot of smart women working in the hydrogen sector, however they were often underrepresented at conferences I attended. I also made several negative experiences as a woman working in the hydrogen sector and it helps to talk with other female professionals about how to deal with those situations."

The 'Women in Green Hydrogen' network puts a strong focus on connecting female experts and helps them to promote their careers - for example through a free mentorship program.

On Monday the 28th of March, only a few weeks after the 'international women's day', the network organized an in-person breakfast in Berlin as part of the Berlin Energy Transition Days. More than 30 female professionals came together and discussed the recent developments in the hydrogen sector. Women working in different sectors like industry, academia, politics and NGOs but also from different countries like Egypt, Kenya, France and Germany attended the networking event. The spirit of the meeting was as usual very inspiring and the network was happy about the lively discussion by the participants.
