Proposed work of the The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)

The proposed work under the collaboration of Potsdam Institute of Climate Impact Research (PIK) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) aims to produce new knowledge and information at sub-regional scales over India specific to different climate sensitive sectors to assist decision makers and stakeholders in better planning for future. Understanding the extreme event statistical and dynamical properties over India.

The work may involve the following:

  1. Climate data for better preparedness towards extremes
  2. Understanding the statistical and dynamical properties of extreme events
  3. User friendly climate visualization tool
  4. Outreach to ensure dissemination and policy uptake
  5. Scientific manpower development and exchanges

Santosh Kumar Muriki
Climate Extremes

Santosh Kumar Muriki is an Associate Fellow at the Center of Climate Modelling at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), with over nine years of work experience in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, climate dynamics, climate science, modeling, and project management. He completed his M.Tech (Atmospheric Science) at Savitribai Phule Pune University (University of Pune) and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM). He did his M.Sc. (Geospatial Science and Technology) at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad. He worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Quebec, where he was involved in the investigation of snow albedo feedback effects in global climate models. He also served as a Research Intern at the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), Department of Space, Government of India, where he analyzed extreme weather events using dynamical models and observational data sets. His current research focuses on monsoon variability (both intra-seasonal and interannual), as well as understanding extreme event statistics, and dynamics. He has a lot of experience in improving model performance to reduce forecasting uncertainty, high-resolution climate knowledge creation, land surface process modeling, and mesoscale convective system analysis. He also collaborated on a multi-sectoral climate risk analysis with several stakeholders.

K. Venkatramana is working as Associate Fellow at TERI. He received a Master of Philosophy in Physics and M.Tech in Space Technology & applications from the Sri Venkateshwara University. He has 7 years of experience in the Meteorology field. He has also worked at the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, Department of Space, Govt. of India as a Project Assistant where he was involved in the various reanalysis data sets assessment and its accuracy. Additionally, he gathered experience in Design and fabrication of crossed-YAGI antenna. His research work includes analysis of diurnal variability of monsoon, active and breaking phases of monsoon, and intraseasonal-to-interannual variability of the Indian summer monsoon. He has presented papers at notable National and International conferences and attended multiple International research schools.  He has vast experience in Regional and Global Climate Model diagnosis and running regional-scale models.
