The meeting was co-hosted by Germany and the African Union Commission, and supported by the European Union, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). It took place place at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Alec was a guest panelist to speak on the issue of climate and security.

Objectives of the thematic meeting were to discuss the opportunities stemming from the mobility and climate change nexus, with attention to gender considerations; to share lessons learnt and best policy and practice from the Khartoum and Rabat Process regions; to bring forward recommendations for future initiatives, to formulate and endorse concrete action points for the Process and its members in the area of climate-induced migration.
