The workshop was joined by 50 delegates from 12 countries: Germany, Austria, Sweden, UK, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Afghanistan (virtual), Myanmar (virtual) and Nepal. Prof. Bhola Thapa, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University (KU), opened the meeting, followed by a keynote lecture from Prof Dr. Jürgen Kropp, PIK. Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal, (Vice President of AIT), hosted opening and closing panels, consisting of high-level delegates (including members from Nepal’s National Planning Commission, the country head of German Agency for International Cooperation GIZ – Nepal, and the Director General of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)).
Participants of the workshop shared knowledge and experiences on (developing) a sustainability-related curriculum and teaching experiences on subjects related to sustainability issues and debated on the challenges and opportunities of driving sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan (HKH) region as well as how to adopt these conclusions into the curriculum from students’ perspective. The workshop concluded with a constructive pathway to building a curriculum that will address sustainability issues focusing on cooperation, collaboration and commitment towards the SDGs agenda, according to the organizers.
